We can’t really remember how it all started. We’re fairly impulsive by nature, but still, deciding to buy a VW camper van on a whim is admittedly a bit ridiculous. Perhaps just plain daft. But the seed was sown somehow or other and pretty soon we were avidly browsing classic car dealership sites and debating the merits of Westfalia vs. Dormobile, Bay vs. Spiltty, classic retro vs. modern makeover…

We did pause for thought, telling ourselves to be sensible, to save up some cash, to wait for the recession to pass and for things to settle down a bit. We said we should wait a year and see if we still wanted one. We told ourselves the moment might pass.

It didn’t.

And thank goodness for that, because now, a few months later (I know, I know, we didn’t even make it the year…) we are the proud owners of Doris, a 1976 Volkswagen bay window, Westfalia Berlin conversion, imported by her previous owners from Germany. She’s a grand old dame who’s been around the block a fair bit and we love her.

We’re writing this blog to chronicle our camper van adventures, primarily so we have something to look back on in the years to come. Hopefully it will document many fun-filled weekends away.

Willkommen zum abenteuer!

Doris
